Our pediatrician in the hospital told us that he doesn't like telling nursing moms to prevent any food or drink until they notice it affecting the baby. Since my only real concern was caffeine, he said to go ahead with my then normal 2 caffeine drinks a day (morning and afternoon) and only cut back if baby seemed jittery. Since LMW has never had problems falling asleep (she only has problems STAYING asleep) I haven't cut down. Actually now as a working mom of 2 I have a coffee in the morning and several caffeinated sodas throughout the day. I do try to wait until after pumping (exclusive pumper here) to have a big caffeine hit.
